Frequently Asked Questions
What is this whole QR code thing?
Invented by the Toyota subsidiary Denso Wave in 1994 to track vehicles during the manufacturing process, the QR Code is one of the most popular types of two-dimensional barcodes. Today, barcodes are scanned by mobile devices to quickly present information to the user bridging the devide between digital and physical. Our codes allow you to view who is scanning what code where. We also allow you to change the destination of your code even after it has been printed.
I don't remember my username.
Make sure that you are trying your username instead of your email address. If you can't remember your username, just send us a note and tell us your contact info. We will get back to you with your username.
I don't remember my password.
Please use our reset password form. We will send you an email containing a link to reset your password.
Can you collect personal data from the people that scan my codes? (phone numbers, addresses, names, etc)
Sure, we could. However, we value our privacy and would not want such information collected by companies without our knowledge, therefore we do not collect sensitive data that may infringe on a user's rights. We do collect specific data for the analytics feature of our services including device type, country, and time/date of scans.
Why do you only display the country location in your code analytics?
To minimize the invasion of a scanner's privacy, we use their IP address to obtain location data. Obtaining location at the City/State level can create some inaccuracy in the data we collect, meaning some IP addresses display City, State incorrectly based on a scanner's physical location vs their provider's registered location. Up to 45% of data collected at a City, State level could be inaccurate. That could be nearly half your codes! At TrakQR, we believe data is only useful when the data is as accurate as possible. Location at the country level is 98% accurate.
Can you add this feature...?
We are collecting feature requests from our users and we are always welcome to feedback! Contact us if there is a feature you wish we offered and we will add this to our feature wish-list.
What happens when I've used up my allotted scans?
When we say that you get X scans per month, we mean that your account is allowed to process that number of scans every month. After your account has processed that number of scans in a specific month, we will present any scanners with a nice message indicating that the code is currently inactive. You may monitor your usage on the account page. If you feel that you need more scans than our current options allow, please feel free to contact us for a custom enterprise account.
What options do I have for downloading codes?
When downloading codes you may choose between raster and vector formats. All raster codes are generated in PNG format while vector codes may be generated as PDF, EPS, or SVG. You may select between four export sizes as well as four different error correction levels. You may customize the color and opacity of the generated code. Some plan types also allow for a custom overlay image that allows you to place custom logos in the center or corner of the generated image.
Can you send me manual invoices instead of automatically charging my credit card?
We can only send manual invoices if you are paying on an annual basis. We don't send invoices for individual months.
Can you take payment from a foreign country?
Yes. If you pay monthly by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover) you will be billed in USD and the charge will be converted to your currency at the current exchange rate. If you pay by manual annual invoice, you must submit payment in USD (usually an international money order or cashiers check). Our manual invoices also include an option to pay by credit card which will follow the same process as our monthly automatic billing.
Can you offer analytics and dynamic on a code not generated by TrakQR?
Maybe. If you have access to change the destination of the code, you may have it redirect to our short url which will allow us to take control of that code. If you need help with this, please contact us.
I'm testing my code but am not seeing any scans on the analytics page.
To keep your tests from counting against your allowed scan count, we don't record any scans that happen when you are logged in. If you want to test the analytics, simply scan your code with a phone that is NOT logged into your account.
Will my codes ever expire?
So long as your account is current and the code is still setup on you account, it will always be available.
Do you offer an API?
Yes. You can check out the API docs here.
Do you offer test/developer accounts?
There is no need. Simply create a free account and test away. If/when you need a “real” account, feel free to upgrade your current account.
If I upgrade/downgrade my account will I lose any codes or analytics?
No. All data is retained for the duration of your accounts life (no mater its status). If you currently have too many codes for a lower plan, the system won't let you downgrade until you remove some of those codes down to a level that matches the intended plan.
